    About Elections

Each year, units are able to hold one election at a unit meeting. Some units decide to hold an election on a campout or at summer camp. Dzie-Hauk Tonga Lodge typically holds an election season at the beginning of each calendar year. If a unit would like to schedule their election for a different time in the year they can send a request to the Unit Relations Chairman and Adviser. Units are not required to have an election if no one is eligible, but it is still recommended that the unit's PLC plan an OA visitation to help learn more about what is happening in Dzie-Hauk Tonga Lodge, OA Section G6, and the OA on a national level.

    Who is Elegible

To become a youth member of the lodge, candidates must meet the following requirements. For Adult requirements and procedures, view the Adult Nominations section.

    • Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
    • At the time of their election, youth must be under the age of 21, and hold one of the following ranks corresponding to the type of unit in which they are being considered for election:
      • Scouts BSA - First Class Rank or higher
      • Venturing - Discovery Award or higher
      • Sea Scout - Ordinary rank or higher,
    • Have experienced 15 nights of camping while registered with a troop, crew, or ship within the two years immediately prior to the election.
      • The 15 nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of at least five consecutive nights of overnight camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. Only five nights of the long-term camp may be credited toward the 15-night camping requirement; the balance of the camping (10 nights) must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps of, at most, three nights each. Ship nights may be counted as camping for Sea Scouts.
    • Be given approval by their Scoutmaster, Crew Advisor or Sea Scout Skipper
    • Be elected by the youth members of their unit.

    Requesting an Election

Typically elections and visits are held in the first half of the calendar year. However, a unit can request an election and/or visit at any time. To request an election, a Unit OA Representative or adult leader can do one of the following:

    • Contact the Unit Relations Chairman and Adviser (contacts below)
    • Make a request at a Chapter Meeting or LEC meeting
    • Send an email using the form below

In addition to these methods, Unit Leaders may get an email in the early part of the year with a link to a way they can schedule an election for their unit using LodgeMaster (the database manager for the OA).
